Information | Postponed! The new EU standard EN IEC 62368-1:2020 has been extended to take effect on December 7, 2025!

发布时间:2024-04-16 浏览次数:287

Recently, there have been important changes in the DOW (Date Of Withdrawn) of EN IEC 62368-1:2020. The original DOW date was July 6, 2024, but has been extended to December 7, 2025. This change is intended to avoid confusion and misunderstanding during the standard update process and ensure that the safety performance evaluation of related products can proceed smoothly.。

Reasons for extension of withdrawal date

In view of the current harmonized standard EN62368-1 of the LVD Directive Official Announcement (EUOJ), only the second edition remains. If EN IEC 62368-1:2020 (third edition) is withdrawn as planned, it will result in a lack of applicable safety standards in the market. This leads to a series of confusions and misunderstandings. Therefore, the EU CEN-CENELEC Technical Board (BT) made a request at the last CLC/TC 108X plenary meeting in 2023 to extend the third edition of DOW for another 18 months, that is, from the original July 6, 2024 to December 7, 2025。

Current standard usage

Until this date, manufacturers and importers can still apply for certificates/DOC using EN 62368-1:2014 (Second Edition). This version of the standard will remain valid until the new DOW date, December 7, 2025. During this period, relevant companies should ensure that the products produced or imported meet the requirements of the standard to ensure product safety and compliance.

Impact on product manufacturers

01

More time to prepare and adapt to new standards

Manufacturers now have more time to adapt to the requirements of EN IEC 62368-1:2020 (3rd edition) as its withdrawal date has been extended from July 6, 2024 to December 7, 2025. This means they have more time to update their products to meet the requirements of the new standards.。

02

Continue to use the old standard

Before the new withdrawal date, manufacturers can still apply for certificates/DOC using EN 62368-1:2014 (Second Edition). This means they can continue to produce and sell their products according to the old standards。

03

Avoids possible confusion and misunderstandings

If EN IEC 62368-1:2020 (Third Edition) is withdrawn as planned on July 6, 2024, it will result in a lack of applicable safety standards in the market, which may lead to a series of confusion and misunderstandings. This issue has now been resolved.
