As we all know, the North American market has strict requirements for product safety. For manufacturers who plan to export electronic and electrical products to the North American market, ETL certification is a key factor. It is not only a ticket to enter the North American market, but also a guarantee mark of quality and safety. In addition, products with ETL certification can usually pass customs and market supervision more quickly, accelerating the product launch process.
ETL 认证
北美ETL认证
ETL certification is a product safety certification provided by Intertek Laboratories, whose full name is "Electrical Testing Laboratories" and has wide visibility and recognition in North America. Products with ETL certification prove that they have been tested and verified to meet specific safety standards. ETL certification has the same effect as UL or CSA certification, and its laboratory is recognized by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL).
Which products require ETL certification?
The range of products requiring ETL certification is very wide, mainly including but not limited to the following types:
●electrical tools;
●household appliances;
●Communication Products;
●IT products;
●Lamps, switches;
●Medical equipment;
●Electronic Component;
●Machinery Products;
●Toy;
●Other products that need to meet specific safety standards。
ETL certification ensures that products comply with the safety standards and performance indicators of the North American market. If your product falls into the above categories or has specific safety standard requirements, then ETL certification will be a necessary step.
How to get ETL certification?
The process of obtaining ETL certification usually involves the following steps:
NO.1sign the application form:First, you need to submit a detailed application form to our company.
NO.2 provide sample: Provide product samples and related technical documents, such as instructions, circuit schematics, circuit block diagrams, key component certificates, inductor specifications, transformer specifications, labels and BOM tables, etc.
NO.3 product testing:Our company tests samples to ensure that the products comply with relevant safety standards.
NO.4 Factory review:After testing is completed and the product meets the standards, the certification body will arrange for an inspection of the production plant to ensure product quality and safety during the production process.
NO.6Issuance of certification:Once the factory review is passed, ETL certification will be issued.
The entire certification process takes approximately 5 weeks. It should be noted that after obtaining ETL certification, the manufacturer's factory will also undergo regular inspections to ensure that the product continues to comply with ETL certification standards.
ETL certification mark
The ETL certification mark is provided by Intertek Laboratories, which means that the product has met the minimum requirements of the product safety standards of the United States and Canada.
cETL (only c, no us):
Safety signs for products entering the Canadian market
ETLus flag (only us, no c)
Safety signs for products entering the US market
cETLus (with c, with us):
Safety mark for products entering the US market and Canadian market.
The difference between ETL and UL
ETL certification and UL certification are both product safety certifications. They are similar in some aspects, but there are also some differences:
Cost and time: The cost of ETL certification is usually lower than that of UL certification, and the process of ETL certification may be faster. Under special circumstances, ETL can issue the certificate first and then conduct factory inspection, thereby saving time.
Market recognition: Although both are widely recognized in the North American market, UL certification has a longer history and higher credibility in the United States.
Review frequency: Factories that obtain ETL certification are required to undergo quarterly audits, while the frequency of audits for UL certification may vary.
Standard expiration handling: The ETL certificate will expire as the UL/CSA standards expire, and you cannot continue to apply for the old standards; the UL certificate can continue to be queried on the UL website after the standards expire, and relevant filing applications can be made for the old standards if appropriate.
In general, both ETL and UL certification mean that the product has passed the test of the National Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) and complies with the corresponding safety standards. Manufacturers can choose the appropriate certification type based on their own needs and conditions. You can also tell us the products and needs you need certified, and we will customize a complete certification program for you to meet market needs.
